Welcome to Slow Food Lake Tahoe!
Slow food is good, clean and fair food. By this we mean that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work. Our mission is to reconnect people to the enjoyment of this type of food, as well as clean and fair goods, and especially to educate the community about their role as co-producers.
Set high in the Sierra mountain range, and including both California and Nevada shorelines, the world famous Lake Tahoe is a year-round destination. The region surrounding this lake, known for its clarity and striking blue color, includes several historic, small mountain towns which attract tourists, second homeowners and adventurous fulltime residents.
It may be the rugged wilderness that we live within every day, or the extreme seasons and sports that go with them, or the sense of freedom that you feel on the top of a mountain that gives people here the strength and conviction to take responsibility for ourselves, our environment and our standard of living.
Up here on this rustic mountaintop that is blanketed in snow up to six months of the year, you may think local, seasonal food is hard to come by. But if you look close enough, you will find local farmers growing not only vegetables, but raising poultry.
We hope you will join us in discovering and supporting good, clean and fair food in our beautiful Tahoe-Truckee area!
