PERMACULTURE

8-Day Permaculture Design Certification Course

Co-Hosted by Midwest Permaculture and Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm

Location: The Yoga Farm, Grass Valley, CA

Dates: Nov. 6- 13th, 2010 — Additional Hands-on Permaculture Work Week: Nov. 13-19th, 2010

Focus: Rural & Suburban Permaculture Design

What permaculturists are doing is some of the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet.

Scientist and Author, David Suzuki -Many of us are concerned today about the big challenges facing ourselves, our families, our culture and our country — the uncertainty of the economy and our energy supplies, the changing climate, food safety, health care, living costs and more. Permaculture takes a deep look at how systems work and how they fail. More importantly it embraces the kind of ideas and thinking that can turn these challenges into opportunities.

In a good permaculture design, work is minimized, yields (food, energy, income) are increased, wastes are eliminated and the environment is restored. Once all the essential needs of a family or neighborhood are met, there are resources remaining to care for the greater community. This is the basis for a truly permanent-culture or ‘perma-culture’.

The emphasis of this course is:

1. Making our homes, lots and lands economically productive

2. Increasing their natural health and vitality

3. Designing long-term, productive food systems

4. Minimizing our fossil fuel (energy) requirements

5. Creating long term security for ourselves, our homes, our neighborhoods and communities.

Introduction to Permaculture with Paul Racko

Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is a harmonious integration of landscape and people — providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. In this two-hour class, we will cover the major design principles of permaculture and provide advice on how to apply these sustainable practices to the home landscape. No matter if you live in an urban apartment, suburban tract home, or on a multi-acre ranch, permaculture will help you live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Early registration and prepayment is required one week prior to class.
Please pay with cash or make checks made payable to ‘Paul Racko’.
